Blepharoplasty or eyelid lift can be performed on the upper or
lower eyelids to remove excess, skin and/or fat and rejuvenate the eyes.
Often excesses of skin or bulging fat (bags) above or below the
eyes impart an aged and tired look to the appearance. In extreme cases loose or hanging upper lid skin may cause a sensation
of heaviness in the eyelids and even obscure the field of vision.
Upper lid blepharoplasty is performed through an incision in the
skin of the lid that is hidden in a natural crease when the eyes open. Lower lid blepharoplasty is usually performed through
an incision just under the lashes to remove excess skin, or inside the lid if only fat needs to be removed.
During your consultation it is important to tell your doctor about
any condition that you may have that involves the eyes, including dry or irritated eyes, glaucoma, excessive tearing or visual
problems, as these conditions may worsen following this surgery.
