Botox is used for injection into muscles of the face which tend to cause wrinkling from their activity. It works
by paralyzing the muscles the muscles underneath the skin and decreasing their pull on the skin. It is most often used for
wrinkles of the forehead, vertical furrows between the brows, wrinkles on upper nose, and crow's feet.
The action of Botox is temporary, lasting four to six months, though over time the effect seems to lessen the
appearance of wrinkles by eliminatng the tendency to frown or squint which leads to furrowing or wrinkling.
Injections are performed in the office and do not require anesthesia. following injection the area treated may
be slightly red or swollen for 24-48 hours.
Complications such as drooping of the eyelids and weakness and sagging of areas of the face injected are
usually temporary because of the nature of Botox.
